When you buy a home, you need to have an agent working for you, and with you. It's important that the agent knows the local market, has a good reputation and a working relationship with other area agents.
I started working in real estate in Northern Virginia in January 1985. Since that time, I've worked most of the time as a buyer agent, even before it became the popular thing to do. Go to the pages on the Virginia laws on agency, to find just what the law says about who an agent is working for.
I do ask that you sign a buyer agency contract before we start to work together. However, unlike other agents that I know, I give you (and myself) an out. Lets face it, not everyone likes every other person they meet. One of us may decide that we'd rather not work together. On written notice, either the buyer or myself have the right to terminate our contract within five days of notice. There has only been one person so far that was terminated, but life is too short to work with difficult people. Right?
